They Just Won't Stop Growing Up!

After taking her first wobbly steps over a month ago, Vivian has decided walking is the way to go. The steps are still wobbly, but come in 10's instead of 1's. She has also decided that staying put in the stroller or being carried is not the way to go. She wants down to show off her new skills, and isn't afraid to let you know!

Lydia is reading! We are on lesson 23 of Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. She is reading sentences like, "This is a rock. Sam is at the rock." We have Storybook Treasury of Dick and Jane and Friends (Dick and Jane). I bet she could read those stories, easy. She is so proud, and so am I!

Nolan is playing Elmos Preschool. It is a CD-rom we got when Kellen was a preschooler. Nolan looks so big sitting on the computer, headphones on clicking away with the mouse. His favorite game is making silly faces. He especially likes the mad face.

When Kellen saw Nolan playing the game, he remarked, with nostalgia in his voice, "Ah, I remember when that was such a fun game!" And I think, "Wasn't that just yesterday?"

  1. I know what you mean. Steven just started playing on the computer a couple of months ago and he's a wiz already. When i tell him his time is up and it's my turn, he automatically clicks on the grocery sale ads from Buehler's and says, "Here you go Mom. I got it ready for you!" Smart kid! LOL!

  2. I know what you mean! I wish they would slow down sometimes so I could catch my breath!

  3. Brandon turns 7 in two weeks. He's my baby. It seems like just yesterday he was crawling around with a binkie in his mouth. They grow up way too fast!

  4. Don't they just grow too fast? My oldest turned 10 in March. My baby boy turned three just weeks ago. Far too fast for me...

  5. Congrats on the walking! Dd just got up herself...been walking for a week now(after months of kee walking).

Those Dick and Jane books are marvelous. I know some people hate them, but ds learned to read(4 years ago) with the new preschool level reprints, and some of the vintage 1940's originals which I got on ebay.

I also manage to get the matching workbooks for the vintage copies!

I heard that the original books are still being published for Amish and Mennonite schools, but are not available to the public. I tried to get them via mail from an Amish publisher in Pa. before I found them on ebay. They did have Dick and Jane type worksheets which I got and were adorable.
