Regarding Yesterday's Post
We lost them all. Our lows were in the upper 30's F last night. We moved the kits together for warmth and snuggled them in with fur. We wrapped a tarp around the hutch. Tim wanted to put a heat light in. I was afraid that they'd get too hot. Tim was right. We lost all the kits. Still none from the other does.

Sorry you lost them all. We lost a litter of pups that way. We move our females into the shed a few days before they are due, so we hadn't moved her yet. She delivered them over a week early and we had a cold snap that week. It's so sad, but it will also makes a good lesson.
ReplyDeletePoor babies. I hope the kids are doing okay with the loss.
ReplyDeleteThat really stinks. It's so hard to know just how warm those little animals need to be. You don't want to "cook" them, but they get cold so easily...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. Those are some fragile little guys.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you lost them :(.
ReplyDeleteHow do the kids feel about eating the rabbits after raising them. I remember eating quail and chickens that we raised, but I think my kids would be upset by it. I guess it is all in they get used to doing.
I'm so sorry that you lost them. I hope the others give you some more!
My in-laws lost a litter of rabbits in the early spring here because of a cold snap. Sorry for your loss :(
ReplyDeleteSherri,
ReplyDeleteEating them? That remains to be seen. Tim got a deer last year and we thought Lydia (5) might be upset, but she watched him butcher it and ate it right up.
As for the animals we raise, we are hoping that being upfront about it will help. Blizzard and Blanche are pets, their babies are food. And no names for food. (except that didn't work when the calf came and Nolan named him George) We will see when it comes butchering time.
So sorry to hear that Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry...that is so sad! :(
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of the loss.

ReplyDeletePOOOO! When I saw your post yesterday I was so excited. Poor bunnies.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so sorry for you guys. That's a bummer, I hope the other ones do better.
